Dr Jenny Hartley · GP · Ultra runner · Coach
Bespoke coaching for beginners, back-of-pack runners, and athletes chasing big mountain goals - built on medical expertise and real-life flexibility.
What is this programme?
Unscripted Coaching is not a cookie-cutter training plan. It is medical-grade, one-to-one support for runners who want expert guidance without the pressure of an elite-only culture.
Every programme is built around your health history, your schedule, and your goals - whether that is your first half marathon, a multi-day ultra, or simply running with confidence again after injury.
What you get
Holistic coaching that meets you where you are - not where a generic plan thinks you should be.
Bespoke plans to your phone and watch via TrainingPeaks. No generic templates - ever.
Home, gym, or park - sessions built around your kit and your life.
Evidence-based fuelling advice from a GP - not the latest fad diet.
Confidence, re-framing, and mental performance for race day and beyond.
Why Unscripted Coaching?
You'll be supported by a qualified GP with deep experience in women's health, injury management, chronic conditions, nutrition, and mental resilience.
Helping you train, recover, and grow with confidence - not guilt.
Who is this for?
You do not have to put your goals on hold. Coaching adapts to your body, your health, and the season you are in.
As an NHS GP with a focus on veterans' health and 19 years in the Army, I understand the physical and mental demands you carry. Coaching is practical, compassionate, and built around where you are now.
You don't have to put your goals on hold. As a GP, I create personalised plans that respect your health needs, helping you move forward safely and at a pace that works for you.
I have many years of experience and training in women's health and understand the challenges that a woman's menopausal journey can bring. Every woman is unique, and so is the coaching that I deliver to you.
Pregnancy doesn't mean giving up training - it means training differently. If you're an active or athletic woman, I can help you maintain strength, fitness, and confidence throughout pregnancy with a plan that adapts as your body changes. After birth, I'll support a structured, progressive return to training that protects your recovery while rebuilding performance safely.
This isn't a failure - it's a signal that something needs adjusting. In personalised video sessions, we'll look closely at your training, nutrition, pacing, preparation, and mindset, so you can race with confidence and finish feeling in control.
RED-S needs more than a training tweak. With medical expertise and personalised coaching, I'll help you prioritise recovery while creating a long-term plan that supports both health and future performance.

“She's incredibly encouraging, especially around my slower pace, and from the very start she's made me feel welcome and capable. She consistently encourages me to get involved and to run with confidence. Her knowledge and experience through her own ultra running is inspiring, but what really stands out is how supportive and inclusive her coaching is. Her sessions are tough but purposeful, and they've genuinely helped improve my hill running while also building my confidence.”
“I'm 51 years old and had never been near the free weights or the squat rack in a gym as I lacked knowledge and confidence. We started steady and built through the weeks. That strength was put to the test 6 months in when my son hurt his ankle. He weighs 14 stone but I was able to pick him up and carry him half a mile up hill to the car.”
“The Dragons Back Race is no mean feat, however I was well prepared and confident that I had built the strongest body I could to get me to the finish. Without doubt the main difference was Jen's support and coaching plan.”
“As an occasional hill runner in my 70s I appreciate how her sessions are geared to those of all abilities.”
